After finding out Marines' combat boots weren't holding up in the hot weather and rugged Middle Eastern mountain terrain, Danner designed the RAT (Rugged All-Terrain) boot to get the job done. They feature a nubuck leather upper with rugged and lightweight 1000 Denier nylon and cushioned ventilating insoles. These soft-toe boots are designed to be worn in climates with average monthly temperatures above plus 68 °F (plus 20 °C). To top it all off, they readily accommodate mountain terrain with Vibram 360 soles that offer omnidirectional traction.

These boots were not as comfortable as I was hopeing . That they would help my foot problems , they do not have any flexibility they are very ridged they slap the ground also they charged me for 2 pairs I only wanted one pair .
Good boot for summer months. Light, relatively breathable, pretty comfortable, decent materials and build quality. So far, seems as they might last for a while. Nothing to really complain about.. These are $100 boots all day..
Man, wish I had these boots when I was serving in the US Army. I was black boot. These need very little if ANY breaking in. I just wish they were also Gore-Tex as that would have been ideal. Perhaps McGuire Army-Navy should specify that on their ad/post? I still love mine and my feet are VERY happy they don't have to take the beating that the black boots gave them. I'll be on the lookout for the Gore-Tex version and will more than likely purchase those as well.
Hiking daily in the mountains of NM is very tough on boots. I have purchased several pairs of this boot because it stands up to the abuses this countryside dishes out. Great tread, very durable and even though it is not advertised as waterproof, it does a great job keeping morning dew or light snow-cover from penetrating the boot. Highly recommend.
