Keeps me warm and protected in the woods, and so far is holding up well. no holes or rips thus far.
I use this more like a jacket over a base layer and it keeps me warm easily into the 20s. If im active ill wear the same thing into the single digits. Just an awesome piece, looks great, wicks water, cuts the wind, heavy duty built and all for $30! Excellent service as well from Mcguire. Liked everything so much I bought another. I am 5'9" and 160lbs and the medium fits great. If I had one complaint its that it is a tad short, but that is just the cut of the shirt so not really a knock. I wear this everyday to work in the winter of NW montana.
I hardly ever give a 5 star rating for anything. Nothing is perfect. This shirt is an exception. Before retiring, I was involved in the clothing industry for over 30 years. I know what clothing quality is; and I like wool. This shirt is of exceptional quality. Everything is double-stitched. There are no loose threads. The buttons are triple stitched. They are never going to come off. The button-down flap pockets are roomy and deep. The wool blend in this shirt is soft and supple. The hand is very comfortable, almost like the original Viyella shirt from Scotland, only this shirt is about 5 times thicker, but just about as comfortable. The current Viyella shirts (having a decreased wool content to make them less expensive) sell for $120-$150). Other scratchy wool shirts, made in China under U.S. brand names, sell for about the same. Also, I washed it in warm water and let it dry overnight on a rack. I was leery about putting it in the dryer. The results were better than anticipated.
Unfortunately, the shirt is available only in size medium and in OD from McGuire; but the medium is a true full-cut medium. Since I am of average build with a gut (but a small one) , there is still plenty of room to carry just in case you wish to use it for that purpose.
If you are a size medium, and you like a comfortable wool, do not let this shirt pass by.
Great fit and finish; I have used it non stop since I got it for work, fishing and will be hunting in it.
Very comfortable and very warm. Slightly on the small side but it works for me. It's a good buy.
