The classic "Desert Storm" and "War On Terror" combat boot.

I should mention, first of all, that I bought these in the desert tan version and not the black version. These are essentially the desert version of the Jungle Boot, and exactly what was used during Desert Storm and the War on Terror until replaced by newer better versions. There is no steel spike protection plate in the tan ones (Not sure about the black ones) and there never was a spike plate on the USGI tan desert boots. For the price you get a pretty good set of boots that I can't really lodge any complaints about.

On the plus side, they are light weight, very well ventilated, and have decent arch support. The down side is that there isn't much if any ankle support, so in many ways they feel like military tennis shoes which may be what you're after or it might not. They are not at all waterproof, which isn't usually a problem for "Desert" boots.

These are the Panama sole version. If you search the website here for "Jungle Boot" or "Desert Boot" or "Hot Weather Boot" you will likely find versions of these with a more modern Vibram or V-Trax outsole. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Panama sole, but if you'll spend most of your time on harder surfaces or floors the more modern lug style might be better.
