Leather G-1 Jacket
The John Ownbey Leather G-1 US Navy Pilot's jacket is a military-style, leather cold-weather flight jacket.
- Goatskin Leather Shell
- Synthetic Fur Collar
- Knitted Cuffs and Waistband
- Bi-Swing Back
- Suitable for Down to 30° F
Originally called the M-445 flight jacket, the leather G-1 jacket was first introduced for use in the US Navy in the 1930s. It replaced the existing Army Air Corps A-2 jacket as the standard jacket to be worn by US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. After a brief cancellation in the late 1970s, the iconic jacket was brought back during Desert Storm in the First Gulf War.
The John Ownbey G-1 jacket is made from goatskin leather with a 100% cotton lining. The jacket has a form-fitting cut, with waist webbing for a great fit. The bi-swing back allows for easier arm movement, and a mouton-style collar keeps you warm and comfortable. The two front pockets have a button closure.

Leather G-1 Jacket
This jacket is just what I was hoping for. It's more of an Air Force leather jacket which has thinner leather than the Navy version. But that's what I was looking for because I find the thinner leather is much more comfortable. I got it to honor my father's service by sewing many of his Air Force patches onto it. This is a beautifully made jacket of the highest quality! I highly recommend it.
This is not a real Navy G1 jacket, it is way too light and the Linning should be dark brown and the leather tab on zipper has no USN in holes in it. Its weight is half that of a real Navy issue Flight jacket? I'm Sorry I ever Bought it
Loved this jacket . I bought it as a gift for boyfriend
This jacket looks great on me - a first for me. Usually with a 46-48 in chest most jackets end up being slightly too long for my somewhat shorter arms; not this one - it fits perfect! The goatskin is soft but not flimsy feeling, and a beautiful dark brown color which I'm sure will fade in time just as beautifully.
The only (minor) gripe I have is I wish that there was some option to add side-entry pockets to the jacket. Other than that, it's amazing!
